EDU100 Artifacts & Mission Statement

My first artifact was my first technology choice board! I really enjoyed this assignment because it gave me a chance to find different technology tools that I could use on my own. I found Parlay which is a useful tool to help regulate class discussions. It actually even has a feature to nudge students who aren’t talking as much, which I thought was one of the cooler parts. I also thought it was cool that they had different systems you could use for online discussions and in-person discussions. This is very helpful due to the pandemic.

I feel as though this meets standard 11 because Parlay is definitely a technology tool that I had never heard of before and I would totally use it in my classroom in the future to help get discussion participation more evenly distributed throughout the classroom. It is also something that would be practical to use because it can be used in the in-person classroom, on zoom, or even an a-synchronous online discussion. This tech tool definitely made me more curious about other tech tools that I could find to help me with classroom activities such as discussions.

My second artifact is my online teaching module! This was one of my favorite assignments to do because it felt the most realistic and helpful. I say this because I actually got to create my own google classroom. I thought this was interesting and helpful because I hadn’t gotten to set up the teacher side of a website before. Seeing and doing it for the first time by myself was really interesting. It was fun to pick and choose what I got to upload for my students to see. It was even more interesting to treat it like a fully remote classroom, because I got to include features like a picture of my face and a class poll. I believe this makes things more fun.

I feel this meets standard #11 because I learned how to set up my own online classroom by myself. This definitely improved my professional practice skills and I will continue to practice them by editing the classroom, or trying other online classroom formats. It was interesting to think about what kind of changes I could make to the content I was uploading so that I could engage students more. It was also interesting to think about how to differentiate on an online classroom platform. I added a few unique features to my google classroom that I hope my students would appreciate, but other teachers would take notice of too.
