Subject: Barista/ Customer Service/ Cashier at Cape Porpoise Kitchen in Kennebunk

Dear Employer,

I would like to be considered as a candidate for the position of cashier/barista Cape Porpoise Kitchen. I found the advertisement for this position online on indeed and went crazy with excitement!

Over my many years of working in the food industry, I have found that being efficient is one of my best qualities. I make sure to keep on top of my tasks and do them as soon as they need to be done, rather than waiting for someone else to do it. Nobody handles curbside pickup like I do. I always make sure to keep myself busy, even when it’s slow, whether that means going to clean the bathrooms or reorganizing the drink cooler or cleaning the retail shelves and making everything presentable. I am also skillfully well-rounded. For years of technical school in Culinary Arts has prepared me for all areas of the food industry… Kitchen, Bakery, and Front of House. These qualities make me a perfect fit for this position.

I’m also very hardworking and I adjust to a new work environment with ease. I have no doubt that my good work ethic, good vibe energy, and impeccable customer service skills will shine through with promising results. I love making connections with regular customers. My good memory helps me remember customers’ names, faces, and their usual order. This makes the customer feel special and appreciated, and also allows for us to spend that time making small talk and connections rather than just taking their order. These are the little connections that make the workplace worthwhile.

My previous job references have commented on my ability to communicate and my outstanding work ethic which you can find in the resume I have attached. I look forward to hearing from you. If you have any questions, I would be pleased to answer them in an interview at your convenience. You can reach me at my email and phone number which I have listed below. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Kind Regards,

Korin Griffin

4. Journal 9: While I am revising my cover letter I will focus on fixing small spelling and grammar errors that I missed. I will also being going back in to change some of the wording, so that my sentences sound more clear. What’s most effective for me as a peer reviewer is specifically pointing out areas or sentences that need to be changed or fixed, while also pointing out what is working and what stands out. If all they point out are things I need to change or fix then I didn’t do enough to make the cover letter stand out. I found it more difficult to give feedback when the person was already hired, but seeing the different structures of the cover letters was helpful to see a new perspective.

5. Journal 11: I have gained insight on what it means to be professional while writing a cover letter. I never understood the point of a cover letter, but now I do. I know that you are supposed to kind of give them a sense of who you are as a worker and a person without just renaming everything that’s already on your resume. Luckily, I did a pretty good job on my rough draft, so most of my workshopping and revision consisted of fixing small spelling and grammar details that I missed the first couple of times around. I found it easier for me to write this cover letter for this job than I would if I had chosen something for my career, but I wanted the practice of writing the cover letter first… now I can apply these skills that I have learned to writing my cover letter when it comes time to apply for a teaching job.
